One the most recognizable figures in modern drumming, Cindy Blackman Santana has forged a remarkable career that crosses genres, and now mediums. As a jazz artist, she is known for her performances with legendary artists including Pharoah Sanders, Bucketed, Ron Carter, Sam Rivers, Bill Laswell and Joe Henderson. As a rock drummer, she's collaborated with an equally impressive assortment of artists including Mike Stern, Jack Bruce, Vernon Reid, Carlos Santana and Lenny Kravitz. Now, with the release of The Quantum Art Collection she goes from drum kit to canvas bringing a new dimension to rhythm, as she works with Los Angeles art team SceneFour.
The Quantum Art Collection is the debut fine art release from drummer Cindy Blackman Santana. As one of the pioneers in a new medium led by drummers, Cindy crafted each work through the process of building visuals from rhythm. The process of creation is an extensive one, but begins with Cindy utilizing drumsticks that light much like a painter uses oils. The captured rhythms are then brought into SceneFour in Los Angeles, where the color channels are extensively worked with to bring out the abstract nature of the performances, before they are laid to canvas. In total, there are 12 different works, each available in highly limited edition sizes.
